The story of Adam’s creation, higher prespective..

The philosophy of prostration of the Angels when creating the first Human being, Adam …

It is no secret to say that the story of Adam is the most celebrated story across cultures. It has been transmitted to us through various religions and cultural folk tales. All of these cultures understand the details of this story in the literal sense and consequently we face a a lot of religious and logical dilemma which renders God as a third party in this dialogue of the story of Adam. If we take the version of the Muslim holy book The Quran” and when examining the Quranic verses related to the story of Adam’s creation it is reasonable to say that the divine command of prostration given to the Angels, is the first command of the “Divine” which was manifested in the presence of Adam (Man, male and female) as an abstract Reality from the material aspect of this world; the first Man and not the first human creature. In this existential phase, no command has been made for Adam of any kind yet. What happened here is one of the most important stages in the development of human Reality in respect to the development of the “Intellect and thinking capacity” where two important events occurred in relation to the fundamentals of his being and character on the level of sociological, and psychological behavior. These two events here are obedience and disobedience to the same command that is, as the Qur’anic text indicates, obeying the angels to the divine command of prostration and the disobeying of Iblis (the devil) for the same command. This phenomenon is new to Adam, the first social behavior that occurs before him and was not known to his predecessors, in order to have an impact on his moral template, for  he has no way to learn it from his parents because he was not created form parents. Of course, this event constitutes the first brick of the human personality, which is the tendency of contradiction and negative attraction in Man. The Creator has enabled him to see the tendency of obedience and disobedience and consequently be printed on the template of his personality. On the other hand, the text of the Quran wanted to present us this metaphorical dialogue that took place between God,  the angels and Iblis to bring the idea to our mind according to the nature of our materialistic intellect in comprehending concepts and retain knowledge.

In my view, this dialogue must be comprehended from a philosophical perspective which reflect a higher reality of the essential constituents of the Human reality. Furthermore, this stated Quranic dialogue did not necessarily happen in a material physical way as it is the common dialogue in this world; and therefore we can draw from this dialogue philosophical concepts related to the reality of human being and the nature of his composition “The self-the nafs; or the ego”

Thus far we can reasonably say that the obedience of the angels of the order of God to prostrate before Adam, represents the sacred side of the human essential reality or ie it represents the angelic aspect of it. And as for the disobedience of the devil (Iblis) to the command of prostration of Adam, represents the evil side of the human reality, that is, the Satanic side.

In other words, we believe that the angels here represent the side of piety (morality) of the human soul (taqwa) and its throne is the pure Godly nature (fitratulAllah), which is infused in Man. And as for the “iblis”, the evil side it represents the immorality of the human soul, as it is stated in the holy book:

“And by the soul (nafs) and how He fashioned it. and thus He inspired it with morality and immorality.  Surely victorious is he who strive to purify it (soul), and looser is he who strive to denigrate it”

Yes “victorious is he who strive to purify it “ that is obedience to the command of God; obedience to the voice of Truth infused deep within Man‘s being, ie “fitratul Allah”

And yes “looser is he who strive to denigrate it”, by disobeying the voice of the Truth deep in the template of being “fitratul Allah”

We believe that, the story of Adam, is telling us very important notion that is the purpose of enabling Adam “human being” to see and witness the event of obedience as well as the event of disobedience; ie, obedience of the angels and the disobedience of “Iblis”, is to be able to realize the importance of what his “being” is made of and what is infused in his template of being; ie, to inform him of the composition of “his self-nafs”, which is composed of the “Pyrmid of being”; two contradictory aspects as well as “free will” at the helm of those two, his willingness to choose freely between them.

The aspect of obedience is the voice of truth (the conscience) which is destined to seek goodness and pursue reform, building, establish justice and civilization.

And in addition to that aspect, Adam was able to see the other side of his nature, “the Iblisic side; the evil side; the immoral side” which was projected to Adam through the disobedience of Iblis.

In other words both scenarios represents obedience to the voice of Truth, to build and pursue justice, and disobedience to the voice of Iblis,  for corruption and destruction.

Conclusion

In other words, this important dialogue (in the Quran) reflects a very important fact, namely, that enabled the human being (Adam) to see on the screen of existence the composition of his own human personality, which is composed of these two contradictory sides, the angels and the Satan. He saw the pure, innate aspect of his reality which is free from the physical constraints of the material body, through witnessing the command of prostration of his Angelic side which is free from the constraints of the physical body, which is made from mud” (ego), when the devil said:

“He said,” I am better than him, created me from fire and created him from clay.”

This holy text reflect very important facts about the nature of the human being, it has revealed the level of ignorance of Man’s iblisic aspect, it believed that the human being is creature of clay exclusively, and that fire is better than clay. Satan said, “He said, ‘I am better than him,  created me from fire and created him from clay.'” Here clearly stated that our iblisic side failed to recognize the true nature of our being; it failed to recognize the other side, which forms the essence of Adam, the Man, , the angelic aspect.

After a while Adam (Man) came to relise that God Almighty vested into him the most important creation and creative innovation of the Creator and that is the faculty of reason, free will and being conscious; the Creator has enabled the first conscious creature that carries within him the most precious creation of God; the Intellect and freedom of will, and that this free will is based essentially on two contradictory fundamentals; the negative and positive, disobedience and obedience, thanks and denial, immorality and piety and was given the ability to freely choose between them; as stated in:

“We gave him the way either grateful or ungrateful” (quran)

And he is not compelled to choose any of them rather he is given given full freedom to choose between them;

“And say that the truth from your Lord, whoever wishes to believe and whoever wishes to disbelieve”

Thus, the viability of the free will in human personality rest upon the principle of  contradiction of good and evil together. In other words, if only good is vested, then the true essence of “free will” is negated because simply the human intellect in designed to choice between two or more things. And similarly, if only evil is vested then the same result. In both cases, the principle of free will is negated and man becomes a compelled and devoid of free will, thus negating the concept of reward and punishment.

God knows best
